NBA announces rescheduled dates and changes following Lakers’ postponed game

The NBA has announced that the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Charlotte Hornets, which was postponed on January 9, will now be played on Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m. PT at the Crypto.com Arena. It will now be the first game out of the All-Star break for the Lakers and the first of a back-to-back before they travel to take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday, February 20.

In addition, the Lakers’ game against the Utah Jazz, scheduled for Tuesday, February 11 at Crypto.com Arena, has been moved up to Monday, February 10 at 7 p.m. 7:30 p.m. PT. This is to help accommodate some other games across the league that had to be rescheduled. It also took away back-to-backs from the Lakers, as they were originally scheduled to play the Jazz in LA on Feb. 11 and then in Utah on Feb. 12, which will be played as scheduled and is the last game before the All-Star break.

The Lakers have another game against the San Antonio Spurs that was postponed to Jan. 11, though the league has yet to announce a new date for it. They will do that at a later date.

The NBA initially chose to postpone the games due to the wildfires that ravaged the Los Angeles community in early January. The fires began in the Pacific Palisades area – home of Lakers head coach JJ Redick – and began to spread to cover significant areas of LA County.

Redick sadly lost his Palisades home in what has become one of the costliest fires in US history. Due to all the damage in the area and the mandatory evacuation zones, the NBA chose not to continue with the Lakers’ games on January 9th and 11th. The team eventually returned to action on January 13, so only two games had to be postponed.

At the time, they didn’t give an update on when the game would be rescheduled, as they probably first wanted to see how long it would take to get the fires under control and start rebuilding some of the destroyed areas.

The NBA is always looking for safety first when it comes to these types of decisions, and considering where LA was at the time, rescheduling was a no-brainer. Now the Lakers will make up the games on their schedule against the Hornets, with the city returning to a safe environment.

What ticket holders for the Lakers’ postponed games can do

For people who had tickets for the Hornets and Spurs games originally, the Lakers are instructing them to hold on to them as they will be honored for the rescheduled date.

This means that fans with tickets for the Hornets game can use them on February 19, when the competition is actually played.
