13 First Alert Weather Days issued for 20.-22. January due to extreme cold

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The 13 Action News First Alert Weather Team has issued First Alert Weather Days for January 20, 21 and 22 due to brutally cold temperatures in the forecast.

Extremely cold air takes over Monday with a morning low around 0 and highs in the upper single digits. The wind chill is expected to be around -10 to -15 during the day and Monday evening. Tuesday will bring lows a few degrees below zero, then highs will be in the single digits. The wind chill is expected to vary from -10 to -15 throughout the day.

Then Tuesday night to Wednesday morning can be the worst. Temperatures between -20 and -25 are expected from late Tuesday night to noon Wednesday, and actual lows Wednesday morning will be around -5.

The improvement begins Wednesday afternoon thanks to lighter winds, but with air temperatures only reaching the lower teens, chills will remain below freezing Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Then temperatures will reach the mid-20s Thursday afternoon with chills climbing above freezing for the first time in days.

Take this seriously. Remember to check up on the elderly. If you have an older car battery that struggled in the last arctic outbreak, get it replaced BEFORE the extreme cold hits. If you have outdoor pets, plan to bring them inside. If you have pipes that are vulnerable to frost, keep those cabinet doors open. Be sure to let the faucets drip early next week. If your tires are low, add air now. Tire pressure drops an average of 3-5 PSI between Saturday morning and Tuesday morning. Frostbite can occur in less than 15 minutes on exposed skin with wind chill between -20 and -25.
