Governor Ron DeSantis declares a state of emergency

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for Florida citing the impending weather.

According to the governor’s press office statement, the order was issued because of the Gulf winter weather system that began on Tuesday and the potential dangers it could have for affected communities.

Dangerously cold temperatures are being felt across North Florida this week, with the possibility of snow and black ice.

The order reads as follows:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron DeSantis, as Governor of Florida, by virtue of the authority vested in me under Article IV, Section 1(a) of the Florida Constitution and of the Florida Emergency Management Act, as amended, and all other applicable laws, issue the following executive order with immediate effect: § 1. Due to the foregoing conditions, which are expected to constitute a major disaster, I declare that a state of emergency exists in the State of Florida.”
