Timothee Chalamet’s ‘A Complete Unknown’ Tops UK, Ireland Box Office

Disney’s “A Complete Unknown” rose to the top of the UK and Irish box office, debuting with £2.6 million ($3.2 million), according to figures from Comscore. Bob Dylan’s biographical drama starring Timothée Chalamet gave Disney another strong start to the new year.

In its fifth week, Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” held on to second place with $1.9 million, bringing its total to $32.2 million. Prequel continues to attract family audiences and solidifies its place as one of the strongest performers of the season.

Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” held on to third place, collecting $1.3 million during its fourth weekend. The film has now collected $27.3 million. Universal’s “Nosferatu” remained in fourth place, earning $1.3 million in its third week. With a combined total of $13.3 million, the gothic horror reboot continues to hold its own with genre enthusiasts.

Studiocanal’s “We Live In Time” continued its steady run, bringing in $1 million in its third weekend, rounding out the top five. The romantic drama’s total now stands at $8.3 million.

Entertainment Film Distributors’ “Babygirl” was sixth, adding $912,100 in its second week. The provocative thriller has now earned $3.1 million. Universal’s body horror “Wolf Man” debuted in seventh place with $803,830.

Disney’s “Moana 2” retained eighth place with $724,035 in its eighth week, bringing its total to an impressive $49.4 million. Universal’s “Wicked” came in ninth, adding $667,525 in its ninth week. With a total of $73.2 million, the musical adaptation continues to dominate the long-term charts.

Rounding out the top 10, Disney’s “A Real Pain” earned $535,780 in its second weekend, pushing its total to $2.2 million.

Among the upcoming releases, on Wednesday, January 22, Shear Entertainment is set to release Nick Cassavete’s romance “Market Men: Rule & Shaw.” On Thursday, January 23, two Malayalam-language releases from India will be released. Starring Malayalam cinema superstar Mammootty, Dreamz Entertainment’s “Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse” offers a lighter tone with a mix of comedy and drama, while Yash Raj Films brings family drama “Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal”.

A packed Friday, January 24 kicks off with Lionsgate UK’s “Flight Risk,” a thriller headlined by Mark Wahlberg directed by Mel Gibson. From Universal Pictures comes the awards season’s front runner “The Brutalist”, and from Picturehouse Entertainment Steven Soderbergh’s supernatural horror “Presence”.

This week’s Bollywood release is Moviegoers Entertainment’s Indian Air Force action drama “Sky Force”, headlined by Akshay Kumar.

Music fans can look forward to “Baekhyun: Lonsdaleite (dot) In Cinemas,” distributed by CinemaLive, which celebrates the global phenomenon of K-pop with an immersive cinematic experience. Meanwhile, Miracle and Sea High Productions present the psychological thriller “The People Before”.
