Eric Garcia says Barcelona showed ‘unbelievable mentality’ to beat Benfica in the Champions League

Eric Garcia came off the bench to score in Barcelona’s wild 5-4 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The versatile star made it 4-4 before Raphinha then grabbed a late winner deep into stoppage time for Hansi Flick’s side.

Eric praised his team’s resilience and the character they showed in Portugal to come back and grab the three points.

“Benfica are a very dangerous team, they have done a lot of damage to us. It is an incredible victory, we are very happy. The team has not lost face in the game at any point,” he told Movistar.

“To start losing in the second minute… it disrupts the plans. The team has shown an incredible mentality. Atlético lost here. They have already shown how good they are.”

Eric also spoke about his future at Barca. He has been linked with a move to Girona or Como, but seems only thinking about trying to force himself into Flick’s way of thinking.

“I think all players will feel important. My job is to make the most of the minutes I have so the manager changes his mind,” he added.

“We knew we came with the goal of qualifying. We hope to be directly qualified for the next round.”

Barcelona will now head home and start preparing for a La Liga clash with Valencia.
