School closings in southeast Michigan: Tuesday closings roll in amid arctic blast

While many Metro Detroit schools are closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day, others are already announcing they won’t reopen Tuesday because of freezing temperatures.

A cold weather advisory is in effect for Monroe County, Livingston County, Lapeer County, St. Clair County, Wayne County, Macomb County, Washtenaw County and Oakland County until noon Wednesday.

Monday’s high will struggle to reach 10 degrees, with wind chills remaining below zero throughout the day. Heading into Tuesday and Wednesday it will be even colder. The wind chill is expected to be between -15 and -15. Some areas could see this number drop as low as -25.

Although there is no hard and fast rule for canceling school, it is likely that schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
