Tracking closures on January 21, 2025

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Some school districts in the North Carolina mountains adjusted their schedules for Tuesday due to expected cold weather.

Extreme cold was expected in the mountains of North Carolina on Tuesday, January 21. Areas closer to Charlotte were also set to experience cold temperatures, though not as cold as the mountains.

A Cold Weather Advisory was issued for the Charlotte Metro area – including counties in both North and South Carolina – for the night of Monday, January 20. Feeling-like temperatures could drop as low as 5 degrees overnight in the area.

A cold weather advisory was also active further north and west in North Carolina Monday evening. Feels like temperatures that can get as low as -10 degrees overnight into Tuesday.

An extreme cold warning was issued for Ashe and Watauga counties in western North Carolina from Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Areas south and east of the Charlotte region should also see some cold temperatures on Tuesday, with chances of snow in the evening. The Charlotte region could see some light showers Tuesday, but no accumulating snow was expected.
