TJ Bamba tallies 21 as Oregon men’s basketball tops Washington

EUGENE — TJ Bamba scored 21 points and Brandon Angel had 15 as Oregon No. 15 defeated Washington 82-71 on Tuesday night at Matthew Knight Arena.

Supreme Cook added 13 points for the Ducks (16-3, 5-3 Big Ten), who shot 51% from the field. Jackson Shelstad and Keeshawn Barthelemy each scored 11, and Nate Bittle grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Great Osobor had 20 points and eight boards to lead Washington. Vazoumana Diallo scored 18 for the Huskies (10-9, 1-7).

Osobor tied the game at 62-62 with 5:49 left, but Bamba followed with two free throws. Angel added a basket and Cook scored inside to push the Ducks ahead 68-62 with 4:10 left.

Osobor scored to get the Huskies within 68-64, but Oregon followed with five straight points to put the game away.

Takeaways

Washington: The Huskies have had a rough introduction to Big Ten play with five consecutive losses, all against ranked teams. The schedule brightens up with the next eight games against teams not currently in the AP Top 25, including three of the next four at home.

Oregon: The Ducks got a much-needed home win after dropping three of their first four conference games at home. Oregon is 8-0 away from Matthew Knight Arena, which could be a good sign with four of the next five games on the road.

Trailing 58-55 with 8:26 left, Oregon scored five straight points and never trailed again. Bamba made a three-pointer to tie it before the Angels jumper put the Ducks ahead 60-58.
