Chargers OLB Khalil Mack intends to play 2025 season amid retirement speculation

Los Angeles Chargers outside linebacker Khalil Mack intends to play the 2025 season, Adam Schefter by ESPN reported Wednesday.

Mack, 33, said earlier after the Chargers’ AFC Wild Card Round loss to the Houston Texans that he needed some time to think about his future.

“Man, it’s a lot of different thoughts in my head right now,” Mack said via ESPN‘s Kris Rhyme. “I can’t really talk about a final decision in terms of what I’m going to do because I don’t know if I’m going to play football going forward, so there are some things I need to talk through with my wife, take some time with my kids and try not to make a rash decision after a loss.”

Mack, still playing at a high level, will be on the court next season – the question is where.

Mack is out of contract in Los Angeles and is set to be an unrestricted free agent. The 11-year veteran remains one of the top pass rushers in the country NFLrecording 6.0 sacks and 49 pressures this season. Mack, who received an overall grade of 90.4 from Pro Football Focuswas named to his ninth Pro Bowl. For his career, he is a three-time All-Pro, a member of the Hall of Fame’s All-2010s team and won AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.

Whenever Mack retires, a gold jacket is definitely in his future. But it won’t be next season. Mack is coming back, and if he stays in Los Angeles, he believes he has a chance to win.

“So long Justin Herbert is your quarterback. You have (security) Derwin James and all these guys who love football. And Jim Harbaugh coaching?” Mack said. “You know you always have a chance to win. Yeah, it doesn’t matter.”
