Weather-related delays, cancellations in the Tri-State on January 23, 2025

The following cancellations and delays have been announced for Thursday 23 January 2025 due to inclement weather.

Postponements and cancellations

  • Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s main campus and Pines open at 11 Thursday due to road conditions. The Tech Center will open as planned. Critical operations employees report to the supervisor.
  • Berkeley County (W.Va.) Schools (PreK-12) will be closed Thursday due to continued cold temperatures and poor road conditions in parts of the county. This will be another day of distance learning for the students. Evening activities are cancelled.
  • Jefferson County (W.Va.) Schools (Pre-K – 12) are closed Thursday due to many roads in Jefferson County remaining covered in packed ice and with temperatures expected to remain below freezing through Thursday morning. Students and teachers will operate according to an unconventional teaching schedule. A decision on practice and activities will be made on Thursday afternoon. The offices open at 9:00 a.m. Essential personnel should contact their supervisor for scheduling.
  • Morgan County (W.Va.) Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for students on Thursday. Employees follow reporting code D.
  • Citywide Hagerstown trash and recycling collection normally picked up Monday to Friday will be delayed one day this week. Normal Wednesday collection will be, for example, Thursday, etc.

Washington County Public Schools “intends” to operate on a regular schedule Thursday, according to a school system spokesman.

The US Postal Service requests that residents and businesses clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes at residences and at the curb for the safety of mail carriers and residents picking up mail. This includes keeping cluster mailboxes for some residential communities clear of snow and ice.
