Bayern Munich with losses to explain the Champions League matches

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) – Bayern Munich is flying in the Bundesliga and stuttering in the Champions League.

The Bavarian powerhouse lost 3-0 to Feyenoord on Wednesday for their third defeat of the campaign, dashing hopes of reaching the last 16 without having to fight for a play-off spot.

Bayern reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich was shown a red card for complaining at the end of a game in which his side missed its opportunities at one end while leaving themselves vulnerable to attacks at the other.

“When I see how many big chances we have again, how much we invest for a chance, how many we didn’t take and how easy we make it at the moment for the opponent to score goals. It was very, very bad today, Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich said.

Bayern had dominated every statistic – possession, goal attempts, corners, passes completed, balls recovered and distance covered – except the statistics that mattered.

Santiago Giménez scored twice and Ayase Ueda sealed Feyenoord’s win after a late counter-attack. Bayern’s players resorted to fouls but ultimately failed to stop Antoni Milambo from sending Ueda through. Leon Goretzka was subsequently booked for an illegal tackle and Harry Kane was booked for complaining in his 50th Champions League appearance.

Leroy Sané hit the post in the 70th minute for the closest the visitors came to scoring.

Bayern lead the Bundesliga by four points from defending champions Bayer Leverkusen after 18 rounds.

It dropped to 15th in the 36-team Champions League table and will need to beat Slovan Bratislava in its final first-round match next week to keep alive hopes of finishing in the top eight to avoid a play-off .
