ICE arrests 300+ migrants the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration

Late. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested 308 migrants who were in the country illegally on Tuesday after President Trump’s first full day in office.

“Today, ICE made 308 arrests of illegal aliens in our nation’s interior — even with the frigid temperatures,” Britt wrote in a post on the social platform X.

“These arrests were nationwide in all areas of interest and included numerous murderers, rapists, sex offenders and kidnappers,” she added.

After returning to the White House on Monday, Trump signed a flurry of executive orders that would limit immigration and tighten border security.

Britt praised the detentions as a sign of Trump’s dedication to carrying out the largest deportation in the country’s history, as he regularly promised on the campaign trail.

The lawmaker also said ICE officials ordered immigrants in the country illegally and serving time in prison to be released into ICE custody.

“ICE also went to jails and ordered nearly 300 additional aliens to be released into ICE custody instead of our nation’s streets,” she wrote in the post. “Common sense is back.”

Advocacy groups and some Democrats are outraged by the Republican-led effort and fought back at Trump’s Day 1 immigration orders, including his call to end birthright citizenship for children of immigrants who lack legal status.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against the commander in chief, citing unconstitutionality. Twenty-two attorneys general in Democratic states also sued Trump over the order.
