Warmer mornings await; could phoenix area see weekend storm?

PHOENIX (AZ family) — Another cold start to the day with an overnight low of 38 degrees at Sky Harbor, a whopping 9 degrees cooler than average.

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport hit a low of 30 degrees, with Chandler Municipal Airport right at freezing at 32 degrees.

With a few clouds, temperatures warmed into the 60s just after lunchtime. The overnight low is not expected to be as cold, with an overnight low of 41 degrees for Sky Harbor.

Outer areas will still be cool and into the 30s. Daytime temperatures will warm up over the next three days, with some locations dipping back into the low 70s in some warmer valley locations.

Another round of windy weather will take place Thursday in primarily western and northern Arizona as a small system passes through the Four Corners and rides on this trough in the jet stream.

Friday and Saturday will be changeable days as we continue to track a low pressure system diving toward Arizona.

This system has the potential to bring several inches of snow to the High Country and light but measurable rain to the Valley that could end our long dry streak. The exact path will be critical to our rain chances because it needs to get a shot of moisture from the Pacific Ocean at some point to give us measurable rain.

The timing is also not certain at this point, as moisture from the storm could hit as early as Saturday and as late as Tuesday. Models match Sunday as our best chance for measurable rain beyond sprinkles.

To recap, Arizona will see another round of cooler, windier weather over the weekend.

What remains to be certain is how much rain and snow and during what periods. But know that your First Alert Weather team calls the forecast daily and will be the first to alert you to any significant changes as the winter storm approaches our area.
