Cumbernauld primary school will be the first to receive new life-saving equipment

A primary school in Cumbernauld is the first in the town to receive new life-saving equipment.

Whitelees Primary School is set to receive a LifeVac unit thanks to a year-long effort by local store SPAR Clyne Condorrat.

The device will be installed at the school this week.

The initiative, in partnership with safety equipment supplier Hazkit Ltd, will see SPAR Clyne Condorrat fund the installation of LifeVac units in 31 schools across the city.

Laura Murdoch, headteacher of Whitelees Primary School, said: “We are delighted to be the first school in Cumbernauld to receive a LifeVac unit as part of this fantastic initiative.

“The safety of our students is always at the forefront of everything we do and access to this life-saving equipment provides an extra layer of reassurance for staff and parents.

“We sincerely thank SPAR Clyne Condorrat and Hazkit Ltd for their generosity and commitment to children’s safety.”

Angela Mason, representing SPAR, said: “We are delighted to be working with Hazkit Ltd on this life-saving initiative.

“The safety and well-being of children in our community is paramount, and we are confident that these LifeVac devices will provide valuable peace of mind to parents and school staff.”

LifeVac is a regulated, non-invasive medical suction device with a patented one-way safety valve designed to remove choking obstructions in children when first aid fails or cannot be performed.

LifeVac reports more than 3,300 lives saved.

Michael McBride, Convener for Education, said: “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our children is a top priority and we are grateful to everyone who has made this initiative possible and thank them for all their efforts.”

Viki Hayman, Managing Director of Hazkit, said: “We feel privileged to have the opportunity to support SPAR in this initiative.

“LifeVac units have been shown to be effective for choking emergencies and we have been working with LifeVac Europe Ltd to raise awareness across the UK for the past two years.

“Our goal is for there to be one in every home and business as essential emergency equipment.”
