Buccaneers and Liam Coen allegedly expected to become Jaguar’s head coach who turns course from Tampa Bay Extension

On Wednesday, Tampa Bay accepted Buccaneer’s offensive coordinator Liam Coen reportedly a major expansion with BUCS, including an increase that would make him one of the highest paid coordinators in the league. Coen had been a strong candidate in Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching search, but allegedly withdrew from the race to stay in Tampa.

A day later, Coen apparently changed its mind.

The 39-year-old coordinator is expected to become Jaguars’ next main coach after meeting personally for another interview, per. More Reports. While Coen and Buccaneers had accepted the expansion, the deal was not signed and Coen is now in Jacksonville and discussed a future as the team’s potential new head coach.

The fact that Coen’s renewed interest in the Jacksonville job comes one day after the Jaguar owner Shad Khan fired General Manager Trent Baalke may not be a coincidence. Jags initially chose to keep Baalke going 25-43 for four seasons like GM before changing course this week.

To make the cases messier, Coen might be joking Tampa Bay completely. Bucs had had no contact with Coen or his representation on Thursday despite several attempts to reach him by More reports.

Contributing reports on whether Coen informed Tampa Bay about his journey to Jacksonville complicates things further. Buccaneers Reported Say Coen did not tell them about his plans while coen Reported Says he informed BUC’s head coach Todd Bowles about his intention to interview for the job.

Coen joined Buccaneers this last season and was instantly recognized for his work with Tampa Bay Quarterback Baker Mayfield. He helped lead BUCS into the total violation # 3 in the league this season. Tampa Bay went on to the playoffs, but lost to the Washington commanders in an exciting wild-card matchup.

Jaguars have had a tough season so far and fired head coach Doug Pederson earlier this month after completing 4-13. And the Baalke situation followed it.

Apart from Coen, the second big candidate for Jaguars was former New York Jet’s head coach Robert Saleh, who had another interview scheduled for Friday. These plans also changed, where Saleh was reportedly hired as San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator instead.
