Billy String’s collaborated with Martin to reveal two new signature gitarians, D-28 Billy Strings and D-X2E Billy Strings. The guitars are set to showcase the famous National Association of Music Merchants (Namm) In Anaheim, California for Saturday, January 25th.
The D-28 Billy Strings is based on the guitarist’s beloved D-28 from 1940 and “brings a modern twist to a classic pre-war design that contains features tailored to Billy’s electrifying style of play,” according to a press release.
The classic dreadnought acoustic ax with solid East Indian rosewood back and sides and spruce top boasts “a unique 25 ″ scale length, reducing string tension for fast, intricate games and expressive bends suitable for Billy’s fast fire candy.” The D-28 Billy Strings also has a slightly wider custom nut than the Strings’ before the war Martin as well as a low oval satin neck that provides “improved comfort and speed, ideal for players asking for agility up and down the neck.”
“If you just think about the word ‘guitar’, I think of a Martin D -28,” said Strings. “Some people may be thinking of a stratocaster or a les Paul, but for me it’s just so American – it’s like baseball or something. ”
D-X2E Billy Strings see Billy make sure everyone can get their hands on a Martin guitar. Strings shared its thoughts on D-X2E:
“There are so many kids out there who really want to learn to choose, and they need access to a good instrument that they don’t have to take a loan. It was important to me – to make sure there was a guitar that people could get their hands on.
“Having a Martin that you can actually acquire and learn to choose … I mean it’s the first one I got and it’s great. It’s a complete badass guitar. “
The D-X2E Billy Strings wears the same 25 ”scale and custom nut as D-28,” while Martin E1 electronics and a built-in tuner ensures that it is ready for the stage. “With durable Brazilian rosewood pattern HPL back and sides and a solid spruce top, the D-X2E Billy Strings are ready to roll and arrive with a hemp softshell case.
“They all have this general thing that is ‘The Martin Sound’ and it is the sound that has captivated bluegrass guitarists as long as it has existed – and any other genre,” the strings added. “But specifically, these dreadnought guitars have for bluegrass music -you need one.”
