Philadelphia 76ers have merged three wins in a row for just the second time this season and defeat Los Angeles Lakers 118-104 at Wells Fargo Center Tuesday night.

Sixers were without Joel Embiid, Paul George, Andre Drummond, KJ Martin and Caleb Martin.

Lakers’ star Anthony Davis left this early with an abdominal muscle tribe, and Los Angeles fell out of each other when he did. After he seems to have control over the game originally, Lakers quickly evolved into a mess of turnover and a complete lack of defense with Davis out of the floor. Sixers, especially Tyrese Maxey, exploited. When Maxey led he fell 27 first half points, Philadelphia had 73 points and a 16-point advantage over Los Angeles during the break.

Maxey was just an absolute threat to Lakers. By the end of the third quarter, Maxey already had 41 points on 14-for-24 field target shooting, and Sixers had a 23-point lead over the visitors Lakers.

The Los Angeles violation, led by LeBron James, started picking up in the fourth period, but it was just too little, too late. Lakers won the last frame 28-19, but Sixers took the game 118-104. Maxey ended the evening with 43 points.

A January packed with back-to-backs for Sixers continues with the team back on the field on Wednesday night to host Sacramento Kings.

Until then, let’s get to the clock. I will quickly shout a few players here, but frankly we all know who the clock is ringing is …

I don’t know what exactly got Maxey in this groove this past week or so, but it’s been a excitement to look at. Lakers had absolutely zero answers to his speed, footwork and shooting in the first half of this one, and Maxey took full advantage. After putting 15 in the first (of Sixers ’25 total points at the time), Tuesday’s third straight game that Maxey has set up 14 or more points in the opening frame.

He made Lakers’ defense look like traffic cones, he was running exercises around – there was just so little resistance that Los Angeles could make up Maxey, and even when they could, they ended up taking him in the process. Maxey ended the first half with 27 points on 8-for-13 field target shooting (two triple), was 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and had two steals during the break.

The attack continued in the third with Maxey tackling at 14 points in the penultimate frame. He hit a couple of triple, but the real show continued to be how Maxey was repeatedly able to maneuver into the paint to the edge apparently at his own discretion, even with five varnishes around him:

It is a continuation of the absolute tear Maxey has been on recently. In his last 10 games before tonight’s, he has an average of 30.5 points (45.8% field target shooting, 33.6% from long range), 7.5 assists and 1.6 steals per year. Excursion.

Tonight he ended with 43 points, only two shy over his season high at 45. That’s his 11th straight match with at least 25 points. He shot 15-for-26 from the floor shot came from every possible angle and all difficulty levels, and still most went in. Maxey also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

And he did it all with only a turnover all the game.

Guerschon Yabusele: 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steal

Guerschon Yabusele started the evening and fought for Lakers star Anthony Davis. Just as he is not backed from a challenge this season before, he did not do it tonight. Hell, Yabusele went straight to him and fought for him one to one with his strength and size to get around Davis and put it over him. Oh, and Yabu hit the advertisement with the “Too Little” too.

A moment later he came with a steal (one of four to Yabu in this competition) before he absolutely rumbled (somewhat tripping) his way right around Bronny James and threw it home with Davis trying to block him from behind.

Davis left the game early, and from then there really was no challenge in the paint for Yabusele and Sixers. That’s a huge reason why Maxey was able to walk on the tear he did. But Yabu still gets the credit for what it certainly looked like he would manage in the fight against AD and how he ended up playing throughout the game.

Yabusele ended with 14 points on 6-for-9 field target shooting, had five rebounds (two offensive), three assistant and four steals.

Ricky Council IV: 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steal

Ricky Council IV was put in the bench in the second quarter and made the most of its opportunity for some real game ministers. He was excellent at both ends of the floor of what was really the perfect example of what he brings to Sixers and the huge burst of energy he gives when he enters a game. He is aggressive and fearless without being ruthless and slurry. Throughout tonight, the council made some excellent defensive plays, was aggressive attacks on the glass and of course gave the fans a show.

The council ended with 16 points in the 19:32 game, shooting 6-for-10 from the floor and 3-for-6 from long reach. He also had seven rebounds (two offensive), two assists and two steals.

However, my personal favorite bucket at night from the council may be this one from late in the first half, where he absolutely bullies back Austin Reave to all the way just below the curve to goal.

Kelly Oubre Jr .: 20 Points, 8 Rebounds, 5 Assists

Kelly Oubre Jr.’s Night started quietly with a defective first period, but he didn’t let it get him down. Especially when Davis was off the floor, Oubre was able to start attacking the field and entering the paint with more ease, where he did most of his work tonight. Despite a tough evening from long range produced by sinking 7-of-10 field dimensions from the paint and sinking all four of his free throwing attempts.

He also continues to be a breath of fresh air (along with guys like Yabusele and Adem Bona) for Sixers in being aggressive on the boards. He pulled eight rebounds tonight after grabbing 12 and 13 in Sixers’ last two competitions. It is much easier to win basketball games when you rebuild the ball. (This is something I imagine would have been much more difficult tonight if AD was able to play the whole competition, but Oubre still gets the credit for his efforts anyway.)

He finished the evening with 20 points. It was not the most effective evening when Oubre shoots 8-for-18 from the floor and 0-for-5 beyond the arch, but it marks his third straight competition that scores 20 or more points.
