Previous Yankees -Reliever signs with tigers

Tommy Kahnle’s third stint with Yankees is officially ending.

The veteran right -hander has signed a one -year agreement with Tigers in free agency worth $ 7.75 million, per year. Jeff Passan from ESPN. Jon Heyman from New York Post Was first to report that the tigers were close to an agreement with Kahnle on Wednesday afternoon.

Kahnle comes out of one of the best seasons in his 10-year career. He sent a 2.11 era over 50 excursions with Yankees, a reliable option in the late laps out of the bullp. This campaign was more proof that when Kahnle is able to stay healthy, even if he gets older, the results are still following.

Injuries have kept the right -handed back in recent years. He beat only 14 games from 2020 to 2022 due to Tommy John Surgery. Shoulder inflammation ended Kahnle’s season early in 2023, when he returned to Yankees, the same problem that also forced right -handed to miss the first few months of the 2024 season.

Kahnle also threw himself effectively in the mail season, even if it ended up on a sour note. He did not give up a deserved race in his first eight excursions of Yankees’ end games. In the Game 5 of the World Series, however, Kahnle took the loss and gave up two earned races in the eighth lap when Dodgers got their championship at Yankee Stadium.

If Kahnle can pick up where he let go, he brings an elite change in the back of Tigers’ Bullpen. Reliever also has a reputation for being a lively personality in the clubhouse.

Without Kahnle, Yankees is still positioned to have an Elite Bullpen next season. They acquired closer Devin Williams from the breweries earlier this winter, a step that allows manager Aaron Boone to insert Luke Weaver into a set -up role. Right -hander Fernando Cruz was also acquired from Reds, while Jonathan Loáisiga was detained on one year agreement with a team setting in free agency.

All that is left to Yankees is to add a left -handed reliever to this group. Starters Max Fried and Carlos Rodón are the only leftists on Yankees ’40 man list from Wednesday. A reunion with Tim Hill makes plenty of sense as Sidearm -Reliever flourished in Pinstripes over the second half of last season. Veteran Relievers such as Andrew Chafin and Brooks Raley have also been linked to Yankees recently according to several reports.

Kahnle will connect with another ex-yankee who spent a long time in Pinstripes when he comes to Detroit. Second Baseman Gleyber Torres also signed a one -year deal with Tigers earlier this season.
