Toronto Maple Leafs can’t make this trade

With the threatening trade deadline, almost every insider has reported that Toronto Maple Leafs is on the market for a center.

Throughout the year, one of the biggest weaknesses in the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup has been the third line. Max Domi has taken this role for most of the year, but an upgrade is needed.

With treliving calling around the lookout for centers, there are two names of previous magazines that have appeared a few times.

The former Leaf Treliving cannot take a step to is Ryan O’Reilly.

O’REILLY IS NOT THE MEAK FOR MAPE LEAFS

I will start with O’Reilly having the chance to stay in Toronto after the second round output to Florida, but chose to leave. On the way out, O’Reilly was not a fan of the media uprising, which comes with being a magazine.

If you want to take a deep race in the playoffs, everyone has to buy in and will be with the team. I’m not saying that O’Reilly would lack effort because he was traded here, but something is good with me, knowing that O’Reilly would rather be anywhere else than in Toronto.

Another reason why I don’t think the 33-year-old is the right goal for Leafs is because I want to see this team add a little more speed to the set-up.

O’Reilly brings a strong defensive game, some scores and a lot of playoff experience. O’REILLY HAS PLAYED 81 PLAYOFF GLADS, WHERE he has scored 26 goals and 41 assists for 67 points (statistics from NHL.COM).

Although all these things are neat, the contract is also something that the leaves should take into account. O’REILLY HAS two years to back on this current agreement, where he earns 4.5 million a year against CAP (wage statistics from Puckpedia.com). Even with the hood that goes up, I wonder how that contract will look past this year and in the last year of the deal.

Many reports say the magazines are looking to add a center with the long run, but I don’t know if it’s the right approach. With Tavares and Marner on the outlet agreements along with the salary taket that is expected to rise, I think the leaves should be open to as much Cap flexibility as possible for this season. Then they also have to try to win now.

Sometimes there are opportunities to shop for players who are not available the middle season in the summer. While it doesn’t help the team this year, it might set them up better for the future, and I think there are better opportunities than O’Reilly for this Leaf team.
