President Trump signed a conciliation agreement in the White House on Wednesday to end the trial he brought against Meta after the company suspended his account in the wake of the January 6 attack on Capitol, according to a person who is familiar with the case.

Trump signed the agreement that according to a preliminary draft requires Meta to pay approx. $ 25 million, of which $ 22 million will go to a fund for Trump’s upcoming presidential library. The remaining amount goes to lawyers and the other plaintiffs, says a person who is familiar with the case.

The settlement comes after Zuckerberg has worked on intervention with Trump since winning the election in 2024, donating $ 1 million to his inauguration and then participated as he sat with cabinet members. He also relaxed from new content maternity rules on Facebook, Instagram and threads, scraping partnerships with third-party facts control groups and moving towards an X-style “Community Notes” system instead.

Trump and Zuckerberg specifically discussed the trial when he visited Trump’s club in November after the election, the source said.

WSJ first reported the agreement. Meta and the White House refused to comment.

The relationship has come a long way when Trump threatened to send Zuckerberg to prison in a book during the summer, one in a number of demands from Trump that CEO and his platform had previously tried to undermine him.

In recent weeks, Meta has made several features that have brought it closer to Trump’s vision for US companies in general and social media specifically.

Earlier this month, Meta said it ended its diversity, justice and inclusion programs, where he participated in a number of other companies withdrew from such practice in the wake of the pressure of conservative critics and customers. Trump has long written against such programs.

Meta also appointed Trump Ally and UFC chief Dana White to his board this year, days after raising Joel Kaplan, the most prominent Republican leader of the company, to be its top political director.

Meta adjusted its content review policies on Facebook and Instagram, which ended partnerships with third -party facts in the US and replaced them with user -generated “Community Notes” and scales its automated moderation systems back. Conservative critics, including Trump, have long complained about what they call censorship on social media platforms.
