Ohio State rattles the third equal victory to close January and Best the Penn State on the road 83-64

For the first time in three years, Ohio State has completed a three-game-winning series in January. Maybe even more impressive, two of the victories have come on the road.

Buckeyes (13-8, 5-5 Big Ten) led by double digits much of the way in the Penn State (13-9, 3-8) on the way to an 83-64 win that pulls their conference post back to .500 with each other The following wins over No. 11 Purdue, Iowa and Nittany Lions.

Ohio State smoked the solid size Penn State on the glass and surpassed Nittany Lions 41-23. Thirteen of these were offensive boards with Buckeyes, which had a massive 18-4 edge in points in the second chance.

Freshman guard John Mobley Jr. Continuing to emerge as one of Ohio State’s best scoring weapons that extended with a game-high 19 points. Star Point Guard Bruce Thornton followed 17 when Devin Royal added 15. Mobley added seven assists.

Forward Yanic Konan Niederhauser led the way for the defeat of Penn State with 21 points.

First half

Ohio State just-up Outworked Penn State in the first half and exceeded Nittany Lions 23-12. Early contributions from Buckeyes’ stars propelled them to a small early lead.

Mobley and Thornton hit every triple before the second media -hourout of the competition when Mobley added a floater and Royal collected four points around the edge. Sean Stewart knocked down a layup and Ohio State rolled out to an 18-11 advantage early.

Much of Buckeyes’ winnings were achieved on the defensive end of the floor, but a trend that kept from their performance in the 2nd half against Purdue and the full -game performance against Iowa. Penn State only made six of its first 15 shots for only 14 points in the game’s opening 11 minutes.

Mobley collected his second first half triple and pushed the lead to 23-14 Ohio State. Nittany Lions chopped it back to 23-19, but a baseline jumper from Parrish and a Thornton 3-Pointer made the edge nine again at 32-23.

From there, Buckeyes worked to expand the lead during the break. Mobley sank a circus three and knocked down on two technical free throwing, Royal tightened together back-to-back buckets over strong competitions to make it a 15-point ball game. Penn State replied with a Baldwin 3 and a Tomahawk-dunk, but the edge remained 43-33 Ohio State entering the dressing room.

Second half

Zach Hicks came out of shooting and spiking two triple to quickly cut the Penn State’s deficit to 45-39, but the answer quickly came from Ohio State on a royal dunk and mid-range jumper from Ques Glover. More points in the second chance with the permission of a Stewart-tip-in placed the lead back at double digits of 52-42 that entered the first media hourlyout.

Another set of second chance points, this time a setback slams by Center Ivan Njegovan, held the lead with two characters after going forward Nick Kern tightened five straight points for Nittany Lions.

A top-of-the-key triple by Thornton Off Four Crisp Passes was followed by another 3-pointer from the left corner, and Ohio State expanded its lead to 15, then two Njegovan-free throws did it 67-50 with 9: 28 to play.

When Thornton hit one of his signature Step-Back 3-Pointer’s three minutes later, the game felt anything but over at 74-56. A mobley made the lead 20 to a good scale, and Ohio State held on for a 19-point victory from there.

Ohio State ends his two-game road trip on Sunday with undoubtedly its toughest remaining seasonal match this year at No. 18 Illinois. Tip-off is at. 13 at CBS.

  • Ohio State improved to 41-20 in its series to all the time with Penn State.

  • Buckeyes has shot 74% or better from the free-casting line in seven consecutive matches, shoots 80% or better in five of these competitions.

  • Freshman Wing Colin White remained out with an lower body injury against Nittany Lions. Meechie Johnson Jr. are still away from the team that addresses a personal matter.

  • Aaron Bradshaw stayed in bad trouble pretty much the entire game for Ohio State and picked up four mistakes in his first seven minutes of action and eventually hovered out. Both Bradshaw and Sean Stewart embarked on only 13 minutes of action.

  • Buckeyes is now 10-4 this season when Mobley scores 10 or more points.
