Tulane Green Wave falls briefly to Memphis Tigers for Third Conference Loss

Tulane Green Wave hosted No. 19 Memphis Tigers on Thursday night. It was a hard-fought match, but Green Wave came short in this one with a final score of 68-56.

With the loss, Tulane now falls to an 11-10 record overall. Their AAC record is a little better with percentage, but now still only 5-3.

While it will be difficult for them to overcome the tough start they had outside the conference, this still has a chance to be their best AAC season during Ron Hunter.

The current best was the 2022-23 campaign, ending 12-6 against conference opponents. The green wave is probably the favorites in all except two of their remaining games.

Topping of this record would be realistic if they match expectations down the stretch. They played hard but ended up not being able to do enough to keep up with one of the best teams.

This was the first test that the green wave has had against a ranked opponent and is likely to be the only ranked team they face the whole season.

The last time they beat a ranked opponent was actually last season against the tigers. Tulane ended the year 1-2 in such games.

Memphis actually the only ranked team they have beaten during Hunter’s tenure.

Sophomore Georgetown Hoyas transfers Rowan Brumbaugh did everything he could in this one to keep the green wave in it. He released a team high 19 points and four assists while tying the team high of seven rebounds.

Brumbaugh has really started to come to his own as a real leader on this team. As his game has grown more consistently, the team has become competitive. He will play an important role in their future in the next few years.

Junior tip Kaleb Banks has really run the show since transferred from Indiana Hoosiers, but slowly got out of the gate in this one. He ended the night with 14 points, but 10 of them came in the second half.

Tulane is usually a solid team on the charity stripe, but it really costs them in this one. They shot only 10-of-17.

Their inefficiency from deeply injured them also shoots only 4-of-24 on their triangles.

Green Wave also gets to become, how too for their next match, Sunday afternoon against Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
