Flights disturbed in Hawaii airports due to severe weather, visibility problems

Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – Travelers in Hawaii Airports experienced delays and cancellations due to severe weather Thursday.

Hawaii News now released a first alarm day from Wednesday night to Friday morning as a strong winter storm moves through Hawaii.

A soil stop was issued for Interisland aircraft everywhere, which essentially prevented aircraft from starting or landing for about an hour.

A land stop was released for Daniel K. International Airport in Honolulu around 10 pm. 15.30 for all incoming flights and all incoming and outgoing interisland aircraft.

Inbound Transacific aircraft were redirected to other airports, officials said.

“Grounding was because of visibility,” the Hawaii Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen said. “It was very difficult for pilots to enter or leave Honolulu Airport because of the visibility because of the storm.”

This meant delays for travelers, some of whom had been waiting for hours to get to their intended destinations.

“Based on the satellites I looked at, it looked like we could actually miss the weather and come home before it hit too hard, but when we were on our way here I could tell that there could be opportunities for cancellations, ”said Pahoa -resident Brittany Hutchins.

“Hopefully we will come to Kauai on time because we have a rental car, hotels all together, so it would be a little inconvenient if things didn’t work, but you know as long as it’s safe,” said Ninglu Weng, a visitor from Winnipeg, Canada.

Transport officials say they coordinate with airlines on flight plans to make sure things are running as smoothly as possible.

They also say that travelers must be in contact with their airline for more information.

Said Hawaiian Airlines Travel path is available to guests Traveling to/from Honolulu (HNL), Lihue (Lih), Hilo (ITO), Kona (KOA) and Kahului (Ogg) between Wednesday and Friday due to the bad weather.

Officials also said that a power tip at Honolulus Airport triggered fire alarms and blasted some circuits to reset.
