Hawaii Island Mayor signs emergency proclamation

Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – in the contemporary of the difficult winter storm, Hawaii Island Mayor Kimo Alameda signed an emergency proclamation on Thursday afternoon.

Alameda said in a statement that the proclamation allows the county to streamline its response and coordinate resources such as heavy rain and high wind are expected.

Strong south winds of 20 to 30 km / h, with wind throw over 60 km / h, have been the largest contributor to power cuts and fallen trees throughout the country.

Hawaii Island has had more than 8,000 power outages in the Hilo area and more than 3,000 in the Puna and KAU districts.

Hawaii County opened these seven emergencies and said that additional shelters will be opened as needed.

  • Pahoa Neighborhood Facility

All county camping places are also closed.

The following facilities are closed due to storm impacts:

  • Mahukona Wharf
  • Carvalho Park
  • Panaewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens
  • Keaau Armory (closed for normal daily activities but remains open to a shelter)
  • Pahoa Pool

Hawaii County Mass Transit Agency announced that the following bus routes will be canceled on Friday due to the weather.

  • Route 1 (to Kona): 9:30
  • Route 1 (to Hilo): 07:45
  • Route 2 (to Kona): 04:30, 5 AM
  • Route 2 (to Hilo): 13:30
  • Route 10
  • Route 60: 05:30
  • Route 75 (Southbound): 06:15, 06:55, 13:45
  • Route 75 (North Administration): 07:10, 9:25, 14:45
  • Route 76 (eastbound): 05.45, 06:45
  • Route 76 (Westbound): 06:30, 8:09
  • Route 80 (to South Kohala Resorts/Kona): 03:15, 3:35, 4:15, 5 am
  • Route 80 (to Hilo): 07:30, 13:55, 16:00, 16:35
  • Route 90 (to South Kohala Resorts): 3:30 am, 05:40, 8 am
  • Route 90 (to OceanView): 07:15, 13:15, 15:00

All other routes are scheduled to act as normal. Delays, redirection or cancellations may occur based on road conditions, officials said.

Officials also call on residents to sign up Civil Defense Alerts on the county site.
