Winter weather warning in 14 states as 4 feet of snow to hit

National Weather Service (NWS) had warnings about winter weather in place in 14 states early Friday with up to 4 meters of snow forecast for some parts of the country.

Freezing temperatures can pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as infants and older adults. Snow can interfere with the journey and create dangerous driving conditions, while winter storms can also cause power cuts.

What to know

States during winter weather warnings included Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Nevada.

States under Winter Storm warnings included Utah, California, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

A Blizzard warning was also issued to Alaska.

Affected areas included Northeastern Pennsylvania, Western Massachusetts and Connecticut, Northern Nevada, parts of central and northern California, western Montana and northern Utah. The majority of Idaho and Washington were also affected.

While expected snowfall varied from state to state, NWS said it would be possible for local amounts of accumulation up to 4 meters around the Bear River Range, which is in Utah and Idaho.

Many other areas under Winter Storm warnings were predicted for one foot or more of snow, where NWS advised that the journey could be affected.

In some cases it said that driving would be “very difficult to impossible.”

“If you are going to travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in the event of an emergency,” the service advised.

What people say

NWS Boise said on x: “Mountain snow and a mixture of rain and snow in the valley are expected for Friday. Precipitation is likely to start as snow towards the end of Friday morning commuting in the valley, which switches to rain at early afternoon.”

NWS Spokane said on x: “While we have snow or a rain/snow mix arriving tonight, depending on where you live, we will not forget the wind that will rise Friday night and continue last Friday night. Get your shovel out and make sure all loose items are secured! “

NWS Great Falls said on x: “The first of many rounds of snow will affect MT -start -free morning and become more widespread by Saturday. The heaviest snow this weekend is expected in the mountains, especially in N. Rockies with travels along the mountain pass, which at times becomes very difficult.”

At the time of writing, the latest winter weather alerts were in place Until 7 p.m. 04 Monday.

The latest winter storm warnings were in effect until Tuesday night while Alaska’s latest Blizzard -Warning was in place Until 7 p.m. 9 Saturday.
