Mets to sign Nick Madrigal

Mets have an appointment with infielder Nick Madrigalreports Joel Sherman from New York Post. It is a shared agreement, per. Anthony Dicomo from mlb.comwith different wages while in majors or minors. It is a one-year covenant for the Wasserman client per. Will Sammon of the Athletic. Sore ShermanMadrigal adopted his physical and the agreement is official, although the club has not announced it yet. They have a full 40-man list and have to make a similar step.

Madrigal, 28 in March, has spent the last five seasons in Chicago. He plays for both White Sox and Cubs, and has generally served as a slightly affected, part -time depth infielder. He has joined the record 940 times over the five seasons. His 9% strike is very low, but he doesn’t go much and takes free passports 4.6% of the time. While putting the ball into play a lot, he doesn’t do lots of injuries in the process. He currently has only four homes and sports a career -batting line of .274/.323/.344 for an 88 WRC+. Statcast Has not given him strong grades for his exit speed, hard hit rate or his barrel speed.

He has been able to contribute in other ways. He has 17 stolen bases in 23 attempts. His defense is also well thought out. He has collected eight defensive races stored on the third base in his career and has been a league average on the second base. Outs above average has given him a +7 score in the hot corner and +2 at Keystone.

Cubs could have kept Madrigal around the 2025 season via arbitration, where MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz projected him for a salary of $ 1.9 mm. Cubs decided to not offer him instead of sending him to free agency without having to put him on exceptions.

Mets have some uncertainty in their infield. Francisco Lindor Has shortstop locked down. Jeff McNeil‘s offense has not been great recently, but even his diminished production has been better than Madrigals. He can also play Outfield, but Mets are pretty crowded out there. Since he still earns an eight -digit salary, he will probably be the ordinary in second place.

The corners are more up in the air. Pete Alonso remains unsigned, giving the club a theoretical hole at the first base. However, it has been suggested that the club is pretty happy to get Alonso to move on. In that scenario the club would move Mark Vientos over from third to first, which lets the hot corner be open to a competition between Brett BatyAt Ronny Mauricio and Luisangel Acuña.

They have also lost an important depth infector. They signed Jose Iglesias For a smaller league agreement, Offseason lasts, which turned into a huge victory. He entered 85 games and hit .337/.381/.448, while filling out on the second, third and card. He became a free agent at the end of the season. The latest reporting has suggested that Mets was interested in strengthening their infield depth.

More to come.
