Charli XCX leads male-dominated Brit Awards nominations-with first Beatles NOD since 1977 | Brit Awards

Charli XCX is leading this year’s Brit Awards with five nominations for her 2024-dominant Record Brat-The Guardian’s album last year. With four nominations, Dua Lipa, the last dinner party, Ezra Collective and Myles Smith close to the Pop Star’s path.

XCX is nominated for this year’s album, artist and song – the latter to Remixen of Guess with Billie Eilish – and in the dance and pop genre categories.

But despite the XCX, who painted the British music industry’s annual party a violent shade of lime green, women remain underrepresented in this year’s nominations and accounts for 34.7% of the 98 slots. Male actions make up more than half, by 53%, with mixed genital actions and collaborate-inclusive the last dinner party-to make up the remaining 12.3%.

It’s a remarkable year for some vintage groups: The Beatles’ AI set every now and then is up to the best song, the group’s first nomination since the very first Brit Awards in 1977. (Before he became an annual fixture in 1983, the first Britons Marked Queen Elizabeth II’s silver anniversary and 100 years ago the invention of the phonograph and honored the previous 25 years in music as Beatles earn three nominations.) And with three nominations for songs from a lost world – their first album since 2008 – Cure scores their First Brit nominations of more than 30 years in the categories for this year’s album, Group of the Year and Alt/Rock Act.

At the newer end of the scale is stargazing singer Smith This year’s rising star -winnertilted by the industry for greater success, and is also nominated for new artist, song and pop action.

The genre categories are gathered by Brits Voting Academy and then voted for by public members via WhatsApp. Predictably, the category of hip-hop/grime/rap-law contains only one woman, Little Simz, along with Central Cee, Dave, Ghetts and Stormzy.

The London Jazz Act Ezra Collective can also be set for a breakthrough year. The five-piece released their third album, Dance, Nobody Watches, in September, after winning the Mercury award in 2023 for their second album. “From a youth club to the Brit Awards and beyond,” they said in a statement.

Some may raise eyebrows on a group that is active since 2016, up to the new artist – along with last year’s Mercury -winners English teacher, the last dinner party, Myles Smith and former Brit School student Rachel Chinouriri – but the category determines that actions must have had a top 40 album or single during the eligibility period, but may not have had a top 10 album or more than a top 10 single, nor have had previous nominations for best artist, group or albums.

Despite intermediate reviews for her third album Radical Optimism – which spent only 19 weeks in the UK Top 100, compared with 220 for her 2020 Record Future Nostalgia – Lipa is nominated for this year’s album, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (for training season) and POP ACT.

Last year’s big winner, Raye – who took six prizes in 2024 – is up to the R&B Act. “I still treat the ridiculous that was last year!” she said in a statement. “I’m excited to see Charli XCX clean up this year, she just deserves it so much.”

Some new comebacks also contain: Sam Fender is up to the artist of the year and everything/rock act, despite having released only two singles from his upcoming third album, people watching, should be in February; And Jade from On-Hiatus Band Little Mix is ready for Song of the Year (for Angel of My Dreams) and POP ACT.

In the international categories, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish two nods per. Eilish also bells a third nomination along with the XCX in the song category.

“Thank you very much for the nominations and recognition of my art,” Roan said in a statement. “The United Kingdom has always shown me so much love and chaired me over the last few years. It was one of the first places so good luck, honey! blasted in so this feels extra special. “

The prizes for producer and songwriter of the year will be announced before the ceremony taking place on March 1 at the O2 Arena in London. Returning for the first time since 2021, Jack Whitehall Receives Hosting Tasks. No artists have yet been announced for the night.
