Small planes go down in northeastern Philadelphia

A small plane crashed into northeastern Philadelphia 30 seconds after it started when the crews react to a fiery scene, Pennsylvania’s governor said Friday.

Gov. Josh Shapiro said he offers all “Commonwealth Resources when responding to the small private plane crash in northeast Phily.”

The crash happened less than 4.8 kilometers) from the northeastern Philadelphia Airport, which primarily serves business rays and charter flights. Photos taken at the scene of the accident appear to show residential houses on fire.

Michael Schiavone, 37, sat in his home in Mayfair Friday when he heard a loud smell and his house shaking. He said it felt like a mini earthquake, and when he checked his footage in the home security camera, he said it looked like a missile was coming down. “There was a big explosion, so I thought we were under attack for a moment,” he said.

Flyvedata showed a small jet that started from the airport at. 18.06 and disappeared from radar approx. 30 seconds later after climbing to a height of 1,600 feet (487 meters).

The plane crashed into a busy cross near Roosevelt Mall, an outdoor shopping mall where the first respondents blocked traffic and spectators crowded on a street corner in the residential quarters of Rhawnhurst. Philadelphia’s Emergency Management Office said roads are closed in the area.
