The FDA classifies chocolate to the most severe level

Food and Drug Administration has reclassed a recall of chocolate products to its most serious level.

On December 12, 2024, Cal Yee Farm issued LLC from Suisun Valley, California, a recall for several of its chocolate and yogurt-covered products as well as his trail mix and toffee due to unclear allergens.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD & C #6 and almonds risk severe or life -threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” according to a release from Cal Yee Farm that was published on FDA’s web site at the time.

The products were sold in nine states – California, Arizona, Virginia, New Mexico, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, Ohio and Pennsylvania – says release.

In January 29 weekly enforcement report, the FDA classified the recall of eight Cal Yee Farm Products as a “class in” designation.

A “class I” addition is “a situation where there is a reasonable likelihood that the use of or exposure to a violation product will cause serious negative health consequences or death,” according to the FDA website.

  • Cal Yee’s Tropical Trail Mix (different nuts and dried fruits)
  • Cal Yee’s Cajun Sesame Hot Sticks
  • Cal Yee’s New Orleans Hot Mix
  • Cal Yee’s Dark Chocolate Raisins
  • Cal yee yard dark chocolate apricots
  • Cal yee’s yogurt coated almonds
  • Cal Yee’s Dark Chocolate Walnuts

All except Cal Yee’s Cajun Sesame Hot Sticks and New Orleans Hot Mix products were recalled due to non -declared milk.

Two fruit basket products, different butter toffee products and a mango with chili product that was part of the initial recall message, was not included in FDA’s latest enforcement report and has not been classified.

No diseases related to sweets have been reported, says the FDA website.
