2025 NBA Trade Deadline live updates, offers, grades

At the forefront of February 6 NBA trading deadline, Fox Sports will look at the winners and losers of each appointment.

We are in the process of a fiery start, with the trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas and Luka Dončić to Lakers Saturday, which was already labeled as one of the most surprising deals with sports history.

With both players and fans glued to their phones to see what splashy offers to arise, we are here to help you make sense of it all.

Below are our thoughts on the movements that have gone down.

1. February: Lakers and Mavericks exchange superstars

Lakers receiver: Luka DončićMaxi Kleber and Markieff Morris

Mavericks receives: Anthony DavisMax Christie, choice in the first round

Jazz receive: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2025 Second Round Picking from Lakers (their choice from Clippers) and 2025 Second Round Pick from Mavericks

Lakers: A

By acquiring 25-year-old Dončić, Lakers has set out with a franchise superstar in potentially for the next decade. Dončić led the league to score last season (33.9 points a game) on the way to taking Mavericks to the NBA final. It is very unusual for a franchise to deal with a 25-year-old superstar of the primary career, and as Mavericks approached Lakers with the will to do so, the 17-time NBA masters rightly jumped on the chance to secure their future.

Make no mistake that losing Davis is a big blow to Lakers. Davis is one of the most underrated superstars in the NBA. He helped Lakers win a championship with James by 2020. He played four All-Star appearances during his five and a half season with Purple and Gold. And he has consistently been one of the league’s top defense, though he is never won a defensive player of the year. For the past few years, James has made it clear that Davis is Lakers’ best player, even though the NBA world refused to oint him with that title. And this season, Davis has at times played MVP caliber Basketball and helped Lakers win eight of their last 10 games and climb to fifth place in the Western Conference.

That said, Dončić is changing dramatic Lakers’ future and sets them up to be challengers in the coming years, long after 40-year-old LeBron James retires. Dončić is the future of NBA. And if Lakers can convince Dončić to sign a SuperMax extension, you can expect the team to compete for its 18th title in the near future.

Mavericks: C

Acquiring Davis gives Mavericks a chance to win now. Mavericks would have a defensive specialist who is mature and knows what it takes to be a master. Davis, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson will be a terribly large three, and it would not be surprising if they competed in June.

That said, separating ways with Dončić is a bit of a head scraper. Of course, there was concern about his conditioning, and defense has always been a weakness of his. But to separate ways with a player of his caliber, at his age, is nothing short of shocking.

Mavericks wanted to take a step before Dončić was ready for a SuperMax contract extension, and if an agreement was not reached, Dončić had potentially the ability to choose to leave in free agency.

With Davis, Mavericks has a window to win a championship now. But it is probably a smaller window than they would have had if they were able to hold on to Dončić.

1. February: Clippers release space in four-players swap

Clippers receives: Drew Eubanks, Patty Mills
Jazz receives: Mo Bamba, PJ Tucker, 2030 Second Round, Cash Considerations

January 15: Sun Buy low on richards

Suns Recipient: Nick Richards, 2025 Second Round (via it)
Hornets Recipient: Josh Okogie, three future choices in the second round

29 December: Lakers wins DFS Sweepstakes

Lakers Recipient: Dorian Finney-Smith, Shake Milton
Nets Recipient: D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, three future choices in the second round

Lakers: B

Lakers had two holes they wanted to address with this deal: defense and 3-point shooting. Finney-Smith helps fill both of these holes. He is a 3 & D specialist who could help lakers improve in two categories they really need to drive up. Russell had been inconsistent for Lakers since they picked him up in 2023, and although he promised to be more professional on his way into this season, it was clear that he was not happy to get out of the bench and play a minor role.

Nets: B

Russell is definitely happy with this trait. After completing 23 points and 10 assists against New York Knicks on January 21, he said to journalists, “I will never take to play free basketball as this for granted again.” A happy dlo could be a good thing for the nets, though it is trying to see if they intend to use him for the buyout market. Either way, this step Nets secured their former All-Star from 2019 and some more draft capital, which is a good thing.

December 16: Warriors add Schröder

Warriors Recipient: Dennis Schröder, 2025 Second-Round Choice
Nets Recipient: De’anthony melton, reece beeekman, three future choices in the second round

Warriors: B+

Schröder gives Warriors a chance that their score cannot fall when Steph Curry needs a rest and he has proven to be a strong defender. To make this deal even sweeter for the Golden State: The team didn’t have to give up much to get him, just separate ways with Melton, who only played six games this season before suffering from an ACL injury.

Nets: B-

The nets clearly signed this agreement with their future in mind. They will store draft choices and give themselves the most flexibility with their reconstruction.

December 15: Pacers Trade for Bryant

Pacers Recipient: Thomas Bryant
Heating Recipient: 2031 Second Round Pick Swap
