In addition to the very competitive best new artist category, Raye was also nominated tonight for the Songwriter of the Year (non-classic) and best constructed album for his work at Lucky Day’s Algorithm. It is a category combination that shows her versatility that continued on screen with her performance, where she was backed by a large band with live strings and horns. She closed a series of performances from her colleague’s best new artist nominated Khruangbin, Benson Boone, Doechii and Teddy swimmer.

After spending last summer working on the festival circuit, Raye appears at this year’s Governor’s Ball in New York and Tennessee’s Bonnaroo as well as festivals abroad (get tickets here). Meanwhile, anyone who is curious about why Raye and her colleagues with the best new artist do not feel everything new on stage can read more about the famous weird category here.
