Joni Mitchell, Post Malone Play on Clive Davis 2025 Pre-Grammy Party

Clive Davis’ famous pre-Grammy Gala hit a big milestone on Saturday night when the event was originally set up to celebrate Barry Manilow’s first Grammy nomination, has now gone for 50 years as one of the prize season’s most iconic furniture.

Like the rest of the Grammy programming this year, with Los Angeles rolling after having a little more devastating fire, the gala assumed a renewed purpose this year and reshaped its purpose for a high-profile fundraiser to Musikares. Together with Musicare’s Person of the Year Event Honor for Grateful Dead Friday, it was one of the few Grammy events that were not canceled this year.

“We must recognize the pain, loss and destruction of the fires that found Los Angeles earlier this month,” Davis told the audience in his opening speech on Saturday night. “Recording Academy and I decided to transform tonight with tomorrow’s Grammy Awards Telecast into a fundraiser for Musikares.”

For this year’s show, participants were asked to donate at least $ 500 if they could, and a QR code was often shown on screens on stage all night connecting Musicare’s four Relief Funds. Davis even said during his speech that he held a six -digit donation to kickstart give to the night.

“This one is a little different,” said Recording Academy Manager Harvey Mason Jr. On stage when he opened the evening. “We are facing a long road ahead. When Brande started, there were actually many questions about whether Grammys should even continue. After hearing the state and city leaders, we decided to move on. It was not an easy decision, but we knew we could use this platform to raise awareness, support the first respondents and celebrate this society’s resilience. ”

Apart from the Fundraiser element, the evening had all Makings of Davis’ typical party. The biggest difference – a pleasant surprise – was for once that the party ended before midnight. A mix of music industry -power brokers, celebrities and politicians stacked into the ballroom in Beverly Hilton at. 7pm and drank champagne and grabs Hors d’Euvres before finding their seats for dinner.

The gala showed a healthy mix of reverent legends and bare-pudding superstars on stage, and as he does on each, Davis took a few minutes between performances to acknowledge some of the stars in the audience in the evening. Those present this year included Jennifer Lopez, Bill Maher, Jeff Ross, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley, Cameron Crowe, Nancy Pelosi, Gracie Abrams, Gayle King and Weird Al, among many others. Jimmy Kimmel took the stage several times to introduce Davis and encourage the amount to give.

Black Crowes started the evening with the help of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo and super producer Andrew Watt, who played a high octane medley by Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times” and Zeppelin’s “All Lotta love.”

Michael Bubble was tapped to perform a tribute to the late legend Quincy Jones, who was close to Davis and attended several of the parties.

Manilow, a suitable inclusion for the 50th anniversary, when he was inspired by the event in the first place, performed “Mandy” after a clip was sent by him who performed the song on “Midnight Special” back in 1975.

But easily the most iconic moment of night was a fantastic performance from Joni Mitchell, sanging “both sides now” and “Summertime” that radiated a smile when the crowd cheered and she heard that her bandmates were going to play. Even in a room full of jaded music leaders often difficult to impress as they see stars appearing in intimate surroundings regularly, nobody on her throne.

Clive Gala also hosts Salute to Industry Icons Award every year, where this year’s recipient is Universal Music Publishing Group CEO Jody Gerson, the first woman to be appointed CEO of a major music publisher. Umg CEO Lucian Grainge presented her the honor.

Post Malone, one of Gerson’s signed artists, played his diamond certified “Sunflower” with which he joked was “My only Good Song.”

“Take care of the people out there who kick ass on the front lines,” Malone said as he left the stage and also shouted Gerson.

After ending the night, Yolanda Adams sang a cover of Whitney Houstons’ reproduction of “I will always love you.”

“This was always Whitney’s favorite time of the year,” Davis told the audience when he introduced Adams. “Tonight, it would be no way complete without a notion to honor one of the greatest vocalists and artists of all time.”
