SZA wins 5. Grammy Award as ‘Saturn’ wins best R&B -Sang

Sza’s trophy case becomes crowded.

The R&B and pop star from New Jersey won her fifth Grammy Award Sunday for Best R&B song for her track “Saturn.” She passed Coco Jones, Kehlani, Muni Long and Tems in the category.

The artist born Solana Rowe was also nominated best R&B performance on Sunday, but did not win. She has now been gathered 26 total nominations since 2018. Previous wins include best pop duo/group performance (twice), best progressive R&B album and best traditional R&B performance.

SZA is expected to perform with rapper Kendrick Lamar next Sunday under Lamar’s Super Bowl Halfime Show Performance. She plays Metlife Stadium with Lamar 8th and 9 May.

SZA, 35, grew up in Maplewood and is an alumni from Columbia High School. Her breakthrough in career came in 2017 with the release of her recognized debut album “Ctrl.” Her 2022 follow-up “SOS” was a critical and commercial success that topped the Billboard album diagram for 11 weeks. Last month, a deluxe version of “SOS” recently returned to the top of the chart two years after its first release. The 22-month gap between weeks on # 1 is the longest for any album.

Other nominees in New Jersey Sunday included Jack Antonoff (six nominations including albums, Record and Song of the Year) and Steven Van Zandt for best music movies (for “Stevie Van Zandt: Disciples”).
