Myles Garrett requests trade from Browns

In Senior Bowl last week, Brown’s General Manager Andrew Berry repeated his attitude that he has no interest in trading 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

But that has not prevented Garrett from making his desire to play elsewhere in public.

Garrett on Monday released a statement to several journalists formally requesting a trade from Browns.

“As a child who dreamed of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a super bowl – and this goal burns me today more than ever,” says Garrett’s statement. “My love for society in northeastern Ohio and the incredible fanbase of Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. The last eight years have shaped me into the man I am today.

“While I have loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete at the biggest stages will not allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it’s always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.

“With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from Cleveland Browns.”

Garrett’s statement refers to Berry’s words, which GM noted twice in January that the organization imagined Garrett went directly from Cleveland to the Hall of Fame in Canton.

No. 1 Selection of the 2017 draft, Garrett is a four-time first team of all-pro and is already one of the best players in the franchise history. He has recorded 102.5 sacks and becomes the first player in the league story to record at least 14.0 sacks in four equal seasons in 2024.

While Browns ended 3-14, Garrett nevertheless led the league with 22 tackles for loss. He also had 28 quarterback hits.

Garrett has two years on his current contract, which would create significant dead money on the hood for Cleveland.

While Berry and Browns may not have an interest in trading Garrett, they will now definitely get calls with offers to Star Edge Rusher.
