Day without immigrants protest closes Tallahassee, Florida restaurants

A national movement called “a day without immigrants” hit close to home Monday like a handful of Tallahasee and Quincy restaurants, food trucks and other companies close solidarity operations.

A widespread call circulated over social media with the message, “no school, no work and no business,” to highlight the role of immigrants in communities while protesting against immigration crashes and deportation policies adopted under the Trump administration.

Local businesses went to Facebook to share their support.

Mama’s House, a Mexican food truck located in Quincy, posted on Facebook It was “Closed Today, February 2nd, supporting our Latino Society! Just as we send this type of messages together we should do much more during the year and support each other through events and projects every day!

The restaurant is typically closed on Mondays, but to show their adaptation to a day’s protest Sunday operations were also suspended.

Restaurants Tellero released on Sunday that together with Bull Restaurant in Quincy, it would also be closed.

“Lord, through your grace that we can emulate your love and show real compassion that supports each other; we know that in your glory it doesn’t matter color or race; give us wisdom to move on in these bad times. Open Our hearts so we can offer hospitality to anyone seeking a breath, “it said.

On the local stage, food cars and chili posted that it was closed Monday as well as Valerios car sales. La Tendita and El Jalisco Mexican restaurant at North Monroe appear to be closed to mark the movement. Although the restaurants are generally open on Mondays, journalists who went to both eateries said they were closed.

The effect of the closures was noticed in the social media group Tallahasee -Foodies. Members expressed disappointment of having to eat elsewhere for the day while also shared support for their favorite institutions.

A user commented, “‘Viva La Raza’ (Long Live The Race).”
