US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will discuss the possibility of deporting suspects TREN de Aragua gang members to El Salvador in an upcoming meeting with Salvadoric President Nayib Bukele, according to the state department’s special broadcast for Latin America Mauricio Claver-Carone.

“We are looking to make a new agreement that may include the members of Tren de Aragua, who will return to Venezuela instead of having to share the prison with the Salvadoric gangs like MS-13. That’s part of what we want to discuss and how President Bukele can help us … ”Claver-Carone told journalists on Friday, where he praised Bukele’s security efforts in recent years.

Since accession in 2019, Bukele has launched a security requirement in El Salvador and withheld tens of thousands of people on suspicion of gang membership.

When El Salvador, when he suffered from the highest murder award for any country outside a war zone, now has fewer murders than the United States according to the government’s figures.

But human rights activists say that the approach of buckle – administration is the upper brother – new legislation introduced as part of the crash, the police allow to detain citizens without evidence.

Last year, El Salvador opened a controversial new maximum security prison for alleged Bendes members, known as Terrorism Incinement Center, or Cecot.

The news comes after President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order On January 20, the state department recommended the process of appointing Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang as a foreign terrorist organization.

The executive order specifically called Tren de Aragua and Salvadoran MS-12 gang with reference to their “campaigns of violence and terror in the US and internationally” as threats “The stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere.”

Rubio begins his tour in Central America this weekend and is expected to arrive in San Salvador on Monday.

Trump has made migration to the United States a high priority and has adopted a number of directives intended to crack down, including ordering thousands of more troops to the US southern border.

Tens of thousands of migrants from the three northern triangle countries that Rubio plans to visit – Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras – try to enter the United States every year. However, according to customs and border protection data, the number of border meetings with people from these three countries decreased by 2024.
