Broccoli sold at Walmart now labeled as deadly, remember issued

Broccoli, sold on Walmart, is now considered deadly more than a month after a recall of the product was first issued.

US Food and Drug Administration advertised Monday, January 27, that the recall of washing and ready to eat 12-ounce marketing of broccoli flowers with a best-used date on December 10, 2024, would now be classified as a class I remember, remember.

According to its WebsiteThe FDA uses this classification in a “situation where there is a reasonable likelihood that the use of or exposure to a violation product will cause serious negative health consequences or death.”

The update comes only weeks after Braga Fresh, based in California, issued a voluntary revocation of the product on December 27, 2024.

“This product is past its best if used by date and is no longer in stores, but consumers may have frozen the item for later use. Consumers who have this product in their freezers should not consume and discard the product,” one is shared Press release of FDA and Braga fresh Explained.

The recall was initiated because the broccoli flowers have the opportunity to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

As per the press release, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause “serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, fragile or elderly and others with weakened immune systems.”

“Although healthy individuals only like in the short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria Monocytogenes infection can cause abortions and stillbirth among pregnant women,” the press release adds.

Texas Health & Human Services discovered the possible pollution during random sampling from a Texas Walmart after one of the several tests gave a positive test result.

The Broccoli flowers were originally distributed to choose Walmart stores in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washon and wyoming.

People who want to check if they have the specific product involved in the recall can check for UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag, with a “best if used by date” in December 10 2024, and LOT code: BFFG327A6 on the front of the bag.

The consumer is advised not to consume the product if it is in their possession and to discard it.
