Rhoden invites Trump to Mount Rushmore for July 4th Fireworks Celebration

Pierre, SD (Dakota News Now) – Governor Larry Rhod has called on President Donald Trump to celebrate independence day in South Dakota.

In a letter, Rhoden invited public Trump to celebrate the country’s 250 -year birthday at Mount Rushmore in 2026.

The Rhoder wrote that the state intends to hold a party that would include fireworks.

By 2020, fireworks returned to Mount Rushmore for the first time in a decade due to dry conditions caused by a pine attack. Former President Donald Trump participated in the event with former Governor Christ’s Noem, who now acts as his security secretary for the home country. At that time, critics expressed concerns about having a large collection in the middle of a pandemic. The celebration cost almost $ 4 million.

Under former President Joe Biden’s administration, the National Park’s Service rejected Noem’s permission applications for the celebration to continue in subsequent years, quoting environmental considerations, wildfire risks, resistance from tribes and staff health and safety during the pandemic.

Rhod’s invitation comes after the formation of the White House Task Force to celebrate America’s 250 -year birthday (Task Force 250). The Rhoden also said that former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum’s confirmation as the Interior Minister could give the event the green light.

“We like the opportunity to work with both secretary Burgum and Task Force 250 to plan a party that will draw attention from all over the nation and the world,” said Governor Rhoden.
