ForbesNew ‘Strands’ Today: Tip, Spangram and Response to Monday, February 3rd

Welcome back, girlfriend Strandistarians. It’s basically summer out in my throat of the forest. Everyone is in tank-tops and crops and shorts. Like the book The wind of winter, It looks like winter is good and really doesn’t come. Well I will make the most of it! In any case, we have a thread to solve, words to uncover, a grid to conquer. Let’s do it!

Threads is the latest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzles. It’s a funny vri on classic words —søgepil. Every day we get a new theme and then have the task of uncovering all the words on the web that fits this theme, including a clamping gram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is Spangram that crosses from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about today’s theme.

Spoilers in front.

The strings of the day suggest

Today’s theme: Elf-centered

Tip # 1: Not Christmas elves

Tip No. 2: The river sorts and their ices (ie troll, gnomes, etc.)

To help you reveal all the words, here are the first two letters of each word:

Remember, spoilers in front!

What is the strict response of the day?

Today’s excitement is: Impish

Here is the full list of words:

  • Leprechaun
  • FAIRY
  • Gremlin
  • HOBGOBLIN
  • Pixie
  • Sprite

Here is the finished beach grid:

Today’s degradation of strings

What threw me out today was finding the word goblin pretty early. I already had snagged pixie and sprite and then goblin didn’t work, so I thought it might be part of a tip, but even when I found Hobgobin spaning the grid, it wasn’t the spangram. It was just north of there, Impish, though I didn’t get it until the end. First I found Fe and Gremlin, then the spangram and lasts the longest word in the flock: Leprechaun, which I always forget how to spell.
