Where is Polygon’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Review?

Embargo to reviews of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 have lifted. We do not have a review on site here at Polygon. This is not an editorial decision; We had hoped to review the game.

On January 2, Polygon requested a code to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 From Warhorse Studios, the studio behind the game and received no answer. On January 7, we reached out to the PR company that worked with Warhorse, who told us they were “unable to give access. We tell you if this is changing.” We also reached the parent company Plaion it 9th January – No answer.

This was very unusual. But this was the situation that happened with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

It can be difficult to see when a studios decision to withhold a code from a publication is intentional and personal. This is partly due to the fact that the process of getting prior review codes is about as rote and administrative as it becomes. Sometimes PR sending PR Company, working for Studios, codes unsolicited in the hope that we will cover that game. Other times, we request codes from the game’s representatives themselves, several weeks prior to the release date, and we get these codes when and if they are available.

As part of our final request for code on January 10, Polygon’s editor-in-chief Chris Plant contacted Plaion and Warhorse’s PR company to get a comment on why we were denied advance access to the game. He emphasized in his message that our hope is that this decision was not due to any personal bias against polygon, nor motivated by any of our previous coverage of games taken by Warhorse or anyone else. In short, we wanted to know: Was polygon blacklisted?

On January 10, we received a response to this request that we could get a code for the game on the launch day, February 4th. We did not receive any clarification on how this decision was made. We also did not receive the requested clarification as to why the developers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Refused to give polygon access to the game.

Because we will not receive access to this game before its public release, our review is nonetheless upcoming, but will not be published in time for its release date. We look forward to telling you more about this game in the coming weeks.
