Tatiana Suarez predicts she will submit Zhang Weili in UFC 312 Title Camp

Given how Zhang Weili has won most of his professional MMA matches via KO/TKO, and Tatiana Suarez has a clear preference for submissions; Countless UFC fans brand UFC 312 CO-MAIN as a classic ‘striker vs grappler’ matchup.

But when talking to Shakiel Mahjouri ahead of the biggest match of his career, Suarez would state that fans should not be surprised if the title Bout falls into a ‘Grappler Vs Grappler’ competition.

“I don’t feel like she’s an attacker, to be honest; If it was Tatiana Suarez vs Yan Xiaonan, I would say it’s a grappler vs attacker, but Weili likes to do it all, and from late she really hasn’t done much in standup.

“I feel like her last couple of matches, she’s just finished fighting, and you know her match before that with Rose (Namajunas) was a competitive match and had something to fight, but it was the most standup.”

After dropping the belt to Rose Namajunas in 2021, Rebound Weili with a cow by Joanna Jedrzejczyk, after which she re-caught the title with a submission of Carla Esparza who followed up with back-to-back out-wins over Amanda Lemos and Xiaonan.

“She has good giant,” recognized her in-depth title challenger, with Suarez and then made a bold prediction of how the UFC 312 Co-Main event will play out.

“I think our styles and the way we match I want to submit her – I don’t have a round of mind, but I know I want to submit her.

“I have a number of submissions that most people do not have, I can make a lot of (different) choke. I have had posterior naked choke, I have had guillotines and d’Arces; A real range of choke that you don’t see in women’s MMA. “

Suarez is 7-0 under the UFC-Bannet, where four of these wins come via submission; And the undefeated American thinks she is adding one -fifth to her resume on February 8th.

“Most women can come to the back of a back-naked choke or an armpod, but I have several choke and attacks, that’s where I excel,” said Suarez with complete confidence in her earth game; “I’m not just a wrestler, I’m a big grappler.

“It could be an anaconda or d’Arce, it would be real poetic if I got another d’Arce – how I started my career against how I win a world’s title.”

Tatiana Suarez about the possibility of becoming a two-weight master

Given the lack of meaningful matchups in and dealing with many of the women’s divisions, we would not be surprised if Suarez soon put her sights on the airweight title if she defeated Weili for the strawweight title this weekend.

While another championship belt remains part of her future plans, Suarez was eager to drive home the fact that she is focused solely on ‘Magnum’ Matchup in Australia.

“Right now I’m just focusing on becoming a world champion, and then after this match we find out all the other things. I want to stay in my department and be the best in the world, beat all the girls coming up.

“So in the end if I try to do the 125 lb thing, so yes, we’re doing there – but I’m not really thinking so much in front … I’m just thinking about my next match and it’s Zhang Weili. “

UFC 312 goes down live from Australia on Saturday, February 8th.
