Seattle – Detroit Red Wings ended their road trip with another win and edged back inside the playoff image after a short shock.

Patrick Kane scored in a shootout to give the wings a 5-4 win over Kraken on Tuesday at Climate Pledge Arena and ended a sweep through western Canada and Seattle. It’s the second victory since Todd McLellan was named coach 26 December, pulling the wings (28-21-5) into the first Wild Card place after winning earlier in the evening by the Eastern Conference competitors had dropped them out of that position.

The wings blew a two-goal lead in the third period, but they played their fourth match in six days. They grabbed an early lead on a goal from Lucas Raymond and built on it with Power Play goals from Moritz Seider and Jonatan Berggren. Elmer Söderblom used its large reach to net a backhand in the third period, giving Detroit a 4-2 lead-but cracker ate away by it.

“There wasn’t much panic on the bench,” coach Todd McLellan said. “We didn’t want to get to that point and I thought we had opportunities earlier to make it 5-2 but they came back. The bench was generally pretty calm. You could feel faith was still there. Wild overtime could have gone both ways see why.

Kane scored in the second round of Shootout after Raymond hit the post and secured two points for the wings after Kraken had done so in regulation. Shane Wright scored his second goal of the game midway through the third period, cracked a shot behind Cam Talbot, and Chandler Stephenson was able to get into an interruption and score with less than three minutes to play.

Seids said the wings “Tayed really composed. We just stayed with it and it was a fantastic road trip.”

Wings strike first

Marco Kasper chased after the puck into the corner and sent the puck into the nearest circle where Dylan Larkin was ready to shoot. Raymond picked up his 21st goal of the season as he tilted the puck and gave the wings a 1-0 lead 3:36 into the game.

But Kraken limited the wings to a shot at Joey Daccord during a criminal murder, and then tied things down midway through the period when former Wolverine Matty Beniers knocked a shot past Cam Talbot from only a few meters outside the curled.

300

Seider appeared in his 300. NHL game. He has not missed one since he entered the NHL in 2021-22-not sometime last season when he was so ill at one point that he had to go to the hospital for treatment. Good things for the wings too, as Seids helped with a goal against Seattle. Simon Edvinsson pulled an outlet punishment on Stephenson at. 19:26 of the first period and four seconds later the wings had a 2-1 lead.

“It feels good to get a goal,” Seider said. “Apart from that, I’m just really happy with the result.”

Alex debrincate pigeons against the puck after a draw and was able to stab the puck back to Seids. He took a few steps in from the blue line, put the puck on his advance and fired a shot through traffic that netted him his fifth goal of the season.

Teeth

Wright tied the game 6:29 in the second period after Kraken forced a turnover from Michael Rasmussen. Four minutes later, the wings went on their third power play in the game. The first device moved the puck well, especially Patrick Kane, who took a pass through the low shot for debrinca, but debrincat missed the shot. Instead, it was the second unit that came through this time when Berggren ended a setup of Andrew Copp to pull the wings ahead, 3-2, at. 12:07.
