When Chicago can see freezing rain, gossip – nbc chicago

After a few exceptionally hot days in the Chicago area, the winter conditions have returned and could influence a morning commuting later this week as a system is approaching the region.

A winter weather counseling is in effect for almost the entire Chicago area with a risk of freezing rain and sleet beginning late Wednesday when temperatures hovers near freezing.

While potential wintry accumulation probably saves most commuters on Wednesday night, rainfall is expected that can freeze at contact, start in the later evening hours and continue overnight.

The mixture of rainfall is likely to arrive as either freezing rain or gossip spreading in the early morning hours.

Although the winter blend is likely to end before the morning commuting, remaining Isaccumulation is possible, which potentially leads to smooth roads.

Models suggest that much of the Chicago area could see approx. 0.1 inch ice that has accumulated on surfaces on Thursday morning.

Another system is approaching the area this weekend with an opportunity for several centimeters of snow to influence the Chicago area on Saturday with cold air clinging around.

In addition to three to four centimeters of snow possible on Sunday morning, more accumulated ice cream is also possible, which can complicate Sunday morning trips.

According to NBC 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Brant Miller, forecasts may well change with regard to the snow event this weekend, with warmer temperatures expected just south of the Chicago area leading to a predicted winter mix or rain event.
