Raiders Name Mark Thewes Senior Vice President of Football Operations and Strategy

Henderson, Nev. – Mark Thewes have been appointed senior vice president of football operations and strategy for Las Vegas Raiders.

Thewes enters its 23rd season in the NFL and joins silver and black after spending the last 16 seasons with Denver Broncos. He recently served as Broncos vice president of football operations and compliance from 2020-2024 after serving as the team’s director of team administration from 2012-19.

Thewes worked for Cleveland Browns from 1999-2004 and spent four years with GMR Marketing in Charlotte, NC, before joining Broncos as an assistant to the main coach in 2009.

A member of Broncos’ executive staff, Thewes, served as a connection to the NFL office to ensure the club’s compliance with the collective negotiation agreement, program list and reporting, planning, official and discipline. In addition to overseeing the team’s football analysis department, he worked close to player contract analysis and the overall budgeting and monitoring of the football department.

Thewes served in Broncos’ diversity and inclusion committees and managed the club’s diversity coaching and scouting programs.

Thewes, resident of Canton, Ohio, worked as an intern in the operating and marketing departments of the Pro Football Hall of Fame before joining Browns as an intern in 1999. He was employed full time by Browns in 2000 and handled marketing/sponsorships For the club through 2004.

At GMR Marketing, an Omnicom Group Inc. Experiential/Sports Marketing Agency, Thewes was an account director in his sports department. In this capacity he worked primarily with NFL, NCAA and NASCAR accounts.

A four-year-old starts at the baseball team at Miami (Ohio) University, Thewes, received a bachelor’s degree in business from school before serving a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University. He is a candidate from Canton McKinley Senior High School in Canton, Ohio.

Mark and his wife, Megan, have a son (Wade) and a daughter (Gwen).
