To celebrate the superstar’s birthday, the world looks back on Ronaldo’s unique career that started when he was just a teenager in Portugal. Forward would continue to excel at some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Manchester United and Real Madrid, where he won a combined five Champions League titles. Along the way, he won five Ballon d’Or Awards, scored a staggering amount of goals and etched his name in the sport’s history books.

7. The most goal in a single season of Real Madrid

It seemed that Ronaldo seemed to surpass himself with every new season at Real Madrid, but nothing could ever compare with the 2014–15 campaign. The superstar scored a personal and clubbest 61 goal.

Ronaldo found the back of the net 48 times in La Liga, 10 times in the Champions League, twice in the UEFA Super Cup and once in Copa del Rey.

6. The most appearances in men’s international football

No one in the story of men’s international football has more performances than Ronaldo. The 40-year-old has shown 217 times for Portugal in the last two decades. Without plans for retirement at any time soon, Ronaldo can continue to increase his record.

Forward is also the only player to play in six different euros tournaments. He has also appeared in five World Cups.

5. The most European championship targets in history

With six euros under its belt, Ronaldo sits on top of the competition’s scoring charts. Portugal International has found the back of the net 14 times in the tournament, five more than France’s Michel Platini.

Ronaldo’s shining moment for Portugal came on euro 2016 when he helped his country win his first euro title.

4. The most target of men’s international football history

Given his overall appearances for Portugal, it is no surprise that Ronaldo has the record for most goals in men’s international football history. The captain has scored 135 goals (and counts) while representing his country.

Lionel Messi is the next closest player on the international scoring charts with 112 goals (and counting) for Argentina.

3. The Champions League’s leading goal scorer at all times

The Champions League is synonymous with Ronaldo. No one in the history of the tournament has more goals than the five-time balloon d’Or winner. During his years representing Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo scored a staggering 140 goal (excluding qualification).

Ronaldo wounded to win five Champions League titles in his career, the second largest in history. Along the way, he also secured the record for most goals scored in a single Champions League campaign (17).

2. Real Madrid’s leading target scorer

It only took 438 competitive appearances for Ronaldo in a white shirt to become the club’s leading goal scorer. In his nine years at Real Madrid, the Portugal captain found the back of the net 451 times.

Together with his 105 goals in the Champions League for Los Blancos, he also sacked 312 La Liga goals. When we talked about the Spanish Top-Flight, Ronaldo scored three or more goals in 34 different La Liga matches, mostly in history.

On his 40 -year birthday, Ronaldo has currently scored 923 career goals and he shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, he sacked 460 goals in thirty alone. Only time will show if the legend can reach 1,000 goals, but the world will see every step on the road.
