Grand Rapids, Mich. (Wood) – Freezing drip and rain overnight is likely to lead to some school closures in West Michigan on Thursday.

ONE Winter weather advisory Has been issued to Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent and Ionia Counties South from 1 p.m. 22 Wednesday to 7 p.m. 9 Thursday. Freezing of drizzle and gossip is expected to overlook this area overnight and will continue into part of the commuting on Thursday morning.

It typically takes very little freezing rain to cause problems. Even with a light glaze, parking spaces, sidewalks and side streets can quickly ice cream up. In these situations, the effects tend to be high, even with smaller amounts. There is a good chance that it will happen on Thursday morning, especially against the state line, including Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.

The Grand Rapid area is harder, mainly because lighter glazing quantities are expected. For the aforementioned reasons, icy conditions could become prevalent quickly.

School endings are probably south of Grand Rapids, but there is a realistic scenario where icy conditions are expanded far enough to cancel schools in the Greater Grand Rapid area.

Ottawa & Kent County

When drizzle is the primary rainfall type overnight, heavy glaze is very unlikely in the Greater Grand Rapid area. There is still potential for enough of a glaze to create icy side surfaces, including parking spaces and sidewalks. For the moment there is a low (2/5) chance of closures. However, situations like this over -priest more often than not in terms of influences, and it can quickly lead to widespread closures.

Southern area

The largest glaze is expected along and south of I-94, where up to 0.10 inches could occur. It would be enough for a solid glaze on most surfaces and would certainly be enough for widespread school closures. The greatest chance of this exists through St. Joseph and the Branch Tames, where there is a high (4/5) chance in place. Elsewhere, up through Central Allegan, Barry and Eaton counties, a moderate (3/5) chance exists with the expectation that widespread closures could easily occur.

Northern area

Freezing of drizzle accern will be much lower if not non-existent, north of Grand Rapids. Instead, a mixture of light gossip and snow is more likely, which is probably not enough to close schools. Meanwhile, across Ottawa, Kent, Ionia and Southern Muskegon & Montcalm counties, a light glaze could do for smooth conditions, but not enough for more than a low (2/5) closure of chance.

Looking ahead

Quiet relationships with Friday with a strong storm are expected later Saturday. Effects are currently unlikely to be transferred to Monday, but this potential is monitored.
