Andrea Mitchell departs as MSNBC News Anchor after 17 years on Friday

After 17 years, Andrea Mitchell will officially step down as a full -time news anchor at MSNBC on Friday.

The veteran journalist, 78, announced on Monday’s broadcast of his long -lasting weekday program Andrea Mitchell reports That this Friday, February 7 will be her last day. However, she will remain with NBC News as its chief Washington correspondent and Chief Foreign Correspondent.

Back in October, Mitchell announced that She planned to leave her daily program Once at the beginning of 2025 after the president’s inauguration to take on a wider role within the NBCU News Group. She will continue to cover greater breaches of all NBC platforms, including MSNBC that goes on.

“After sixteen years of being in the anchor chair every day, I want time to do more of what I love most: More connection, listening and reporting in the field,” Mitchell explained to his show at the time. “Especially when the one who is elected next week will take on the monumental task of dealing with two foreign wars and the political departments here at home.”

She then expressed her interest in covering these events from a “different vantage point” of MSNBC and NBC News – one that is “not on a schedule for a daily show.” She added, “My goal will continue, as it always has been: to bring you, our viewers, the big news makers who shape our country and the world right here at MSNBC.”
