Senator Mitch McConnell falls twice, leaving the capital in wheelchair

Washington – Former Senat’s Republican leader Mitch McConnell dropped twice on Wednesday And were escorted out of the capital in a wheelchair as a precautionary measure.

The long -time leader, 82, is a survivor of childhood polio and has had several health problems in recent years.

“Senator McConnell is fine,” McConnell -speaker Stephanie Penn said in a statement. “The lingering effects of polio in his left leg will not interfere with his regular schedule for work.”

McConnell first fell on the stairs near the Senate Chamber noon and another time during the Republican conference tunch in the same wing of Capitol. He wore a plate of food and landed on his side, Punchbowl News reported.

In 2023, McConnell froze twice ahead of journalists months after breaking a rib and suffering of a concussion from another fall. He fell two other times that year.

His health issues asked questions about his continued fitness to serve with other aging legislators such as former President Joe Biden and deceased Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

McConnell was the longest -earned party leader in the history of the Senate and held the position from 2007 to 2024. He stepped down from the position at the end of last year and was followed by Senate majority leader John Thune, Rs.d.
