Mets were at the last place of Juan Soto at the beginning

Mets did history this season as they landed superstar-swallowing Juan Soto on a record-breaking 15-year-old $ 765 contract.

But at the beginning of the negotiations, Mets was apparently far from the highest offer.

According to John Heyman of the New York Post, Mets almost fell out of Soto.

Per. Heyman: Back in Topsy-Turvy Soto Talks, where three bidding rounds were established, Mets almost fell out in Round 1st. After Mets originally offered about $ 500 million. Eventually, 50 percent up-they were informed that they were in the last place or so among five large marketing teams that offered. At that moment it seemed that Mets could possibly leave quickly.

Of course, things worked for Mets and the owner Steve Cohen, who gave the outfield the biggest guaranteed contract in professional sports history.

According to Heyman, Mets sat down in the middle of things in Round 2 and acted, assuming it would be between them and yanke at the end. He also notes that Mets was “smartly underlined family” in the negotiations.

Soto, 26, had the best 162-game season in his career in 2024 with Yankees, hit 288 with a .989 ops and placed career heights in hits (156), Run Scored (128) and Home Rides (41).
