Penndot and PA Turnpike update vehicle restrictions ahead of winter weather | Department of Transport

Harrisburg, Pa – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Penndot) and PA Turnpike Commission (PA Turnpike) updates planned vehicle restrictions in response to updated weather forecasts. Motorists should avoid unnecessary journeys during the storm and to exercise caution when driving.

Vehicle Limitations are communicated via variable bulletin boards, 511PA Traveler Information Web site and smartphone apps. Motorists can too Sign Up for Personalized Alarms on the website. Limitations are lifted as soon as possible when conditions are safe. Restrictions can be changed based on conditions on roads and reports from the first respondents, law enforcement and penndot and pa turnpike staff.

The following vehicle restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. 21.00 Wednesday 5th Februaryin accordance with Level 2 by the Commonwealth’s Weather Event Vehicle Restriction Plan.

  • Pa Turnpike I-70/76 from the Breezewood exit to Harrisburg East Exit.

The following vehicle restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. 21.00 Wednesday 5th Februaryin accordance with Level 4 by the Commonwealth’s Weather Event Vehicle Restriction Plan.

  • Pa Turnpike I-70/76 from the new Stanton output to the Breezewood exit.

The following vehicle restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. 12:01 Thursday, February 6in accordance with Level 2 by the Commonwealth’s Weather Event Vehicle Restriction Plan.

  • PA TURNPIKE NORTHEAST Extension I-476 from the Lehigh Valley output to Clark’s Summit Exit.

The following vehicle restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. 12:01 Thursday, February 6in accordance with Level 4 by the Commonwealth’s Weather Event Vehicle Restriction Plan.

  • I-70 from PA Turnpike I-76 to the Maryland border.
  • I-79 from PA Turnpike I-76 to the end of I-79 North.
  • I-80 from Exit 4 to Exit 173.
  • I-81 from the Maryland border to I-80.
  • I-83, whole length.
  • I-99, whole length.
  • I-376 from Road Tax 376 to I-80.
  • Route 22 From Route 119 to I-99.

The following vehicle restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. 04.00 on Thursday 6th Februaryin accordance with Level 4 by the Commonwealth’s Weather Event Vehicle Restriction Plan.

  • I-78, whole length.
  • I-80 from exit 173 to I-81.
  • I-81 from I-83 to I-80
  • I-180, whole length.
  • I-283, the whole length.
  • Route 22/322 from I-81 to I-99.
  • Route 22 from I-78 and Route 33.

The following vehicle restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. 7:00 AM Thursday 6th Februaryin accordance with Level 4 by the Commonwealth’s Weather Event Vehicle Restriction Plan.

  • I-80 from I-81 to the New Jersey border.
  • Route 33, full length.

Under Level 2 limitsThe following vehicles are not allowed On affected roads:

  • Tractors without trailers.
  • Tractors drawn, unloaded or lightly loaded closed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.
  • Tractors pulled by unloaded or slightly loaded tandem trailers.
  • Tractors that pull loaded tandem trailers without chains or alternative traction units (ATDs).
  • Closed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo cars/box cars that meet the definition of a CMV.
  • Passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers.
  • Recreational vehicles/bobiles.
  • School buses, commercial buses and motor trainers, regardless of the availability of trains or ATDs.
  • Motorcycles.

On roads with level 4 limits in place, No commercial vehicles are allowed. In addition, all school buses, commercial buses, motor trainers, motorcycles, RVs/bobiles and passenger cars (cars, SUVs, pickup cars, etc.) Bowing trailers are not allowed on affected roads, while restrictions are in place.
